Subarude, getting back into Subaru

Post by Subarude on Mon Jul 23, 2012 9:50 pm

Hey all,
When I turned 16 my dad handed me the keys to a 1986 Subaru BRAT. It was the coolest car I had ever seen, the jump seats in the truck bed were a definite plus. After fixing the BRAT, I traded up for a Civic hatch, and that got me into the tuner world. Once I wore out my possibilities with the Civic, I moved to East Texas for college and traded up for a Cutlass Cierra with only 30k miles. Since I was in East Texas, we donked that heck out of that car. I traded up from there and bought my first MR2. After working on the NA and feeling the disappointing lack of power, I traded up again for a turbo model. That was a beast. But, I my gas mileage was down to the lower 20's, and I was traveling back and forth to UTEP from far east El Paso. So after a lot of research, I found the BEAMS engine. I sold the turbo and traded up for an MR2 BEAMS from Cali. This was an extremely rare find, and everything I wanted from my MR2. I have the power of the turbo model with no turbo lag or weight, plus the benefits of 31mpg. I love it. At this point my lil bro needed a car for college but didn't have money to buy a good one. So I lent him my car and used his $1000 to buy an 82 Subaru BRAT. I went all the way back to my roots. Fixed that car up and sold it for $3500 in Austin, gave my lil bro his profits so he could buy a decent car and now I have my MR2 back. In the past 6 years, my car experience has been a journey from a broken BRAT worth $1750, to a rare JDM legend - the MR2 BEAMS that I bought for $8500. I've been turning cars since I was 16, I am now 22 and in the market for a Subaru again. It was my first car, and I want it to be my last. Currently in search for a WRX or Forester. I have several MR2 buddies in town, I want to see if we can all make it to one of your Saturday meets. See you guys there!

Here's a couple pics:

Holy crap lol, welcome but we need to shorten your list of vehicles down to the vehicle(s) you own currently because it makes your posts super long.

So that's your MR2 on craigslist? I always prowl around looking to see what is out there. Good luck on your search for a subie!
