Torque and wrap
Just received my down pipe and up pipe today. Are there torque specifications when installing? If so, what are they? My DP did not come with bolts for turbo connection, so should I use stock bolts or get new ones. Second Q is heat wrapping. Is there any real benefit in heat wrapping your DP and/or up pipe, or is that just "user preference" or "hear say"?

Just use your stock bolts. Now in order to run that downpipe you have to get an adapter flange. Stock cbe uses a donut gasket and the Invidia is a flat 3" flange. Also, what are you using as far as tuning?

I have Nvidia q300 cbe right now and as far as tuning goes I am running an AP using stock maps.

Re: Torque and wrap
I'm waiting to get paid again to snag an AP. I have a few things coming in the mail I gotta slap on but hopefully these wheels sell so I can slam the car into oblivion and get it sitting correctly. I hate how it looks like it's a monster truck right now. Urks me.

Re: Torque and wrap
According to the manual the torque specs for turbo/dp bolts are 42.5 N·m (31.3 ft-lb) and the dp/exhaust are 18 N·m (13.3 ft-lb). The up pipe also calls for 42.5 N·m (31.3 ft-lb). As far as heat wrapping, you'll definitely see some benefits from applying it to the dp. The key is to reduce heat soak and mitigate the negative effects it can have on the engine. Especially here in the lovely southwest were temperatures can make the car bog and sluggish in the midst of summer. It doesn't help that the intercooler sits atop of the turbocharger and dp. From my experience, the use of a wrap on the dp plus a thermal blanket (Ptp or Perrin) on the turbo in conjunction with a heat shield greatly improved the drivability of the car. For reference see:

By the way what downpipe did you pick up (catless or catted)?

Re: Torque and wrap
Some but not all wrx's are prone to overboost with catless downpipes even more so when an intake is added to the mix. In the tuning section of NASIOC or the Cobb forum you see about one person a week complaining of it. Since Cobb doesn't make a OTS map specific for a catless dp try running a the lower wastegate map and datalog, making sure your not excedding your target boost or that your not getting any knock. A custom e-tune will always be best. Two of the most popular are Torqued performance and Clark Turner tuning.

Re: Torque and wrap
When Clark comes down, I'm going to throw literally everything on the day prior. Only the things that don't require tunes will be thrown on like gauges and all that nonsense. This exhaust and intake need to go. For some reason, the intake keeps tripping a bank 1 code once a week or so.

Gotcha! Let er' rip! FWIW I would recommend hitting up Eric Minehart (torquedperformance.com) and running one of his e-tune maps. It's $85 for a stage 2 (8 different intake setups, you get all of them, and all the online tweaking you need). So much better than cobb's maps and definitely worth the $85.

Absolutely! You won't be disappointed. On his stage 3 (3.52 for us 08 with VF52 swaps) map I was putting down 300/350.

Re: Torque and wrap
i wrapped my up pipe, but was too lazy to do the headers and i might do that next weekend on a boring day. it helps alot. and i also used my stock bolts and it wasnt a problem. its a tight fit with the bell mouth so i used the double wrench trick for torque
Re: Torque and wrap
UPDATE: I wrapped my DP but not my up pipe (it is ceramic coated) and I am very pleased with the performance.

I believe it personal preference and it all depends on what you use it for (i.e. track, daily drive, getting groceries ect.)

Re: Torque and wrap
I have PTP black blanket I may be selling here shortly. Pretty sure it'll fit the VF52's. I'll keep you updated if you are interested.
