2013 Gila Run (5/19/2013)
Hey guys,
I meant to mention this to everyone last night...
The MINI group has been doing a group run every year from EP to the awesome, twisty roads up north of Silver City. I was tasked with helping plan it this year and I really wanted to open the trip up any of the car folks who wanted to drive on roads that are not straight for MILES... Anyways, I will post the details below. We are making a Facebook event for the run. If anyone wants to, feel free to add me on Facebook and I can add invite you to the page. (Johnny Horsley; profile pic is a bearded guy..)
3RD ANNUAL GILA WILDERNESS RUN SUNDAY, MAY 19, 2013
8:30 Meet at Starbucks Outlet Mall, Transmountain Rd @ I-10
9:00 Depart for Las Cruces Meet up at Pan Am Center parking lot I-25 @ University
9:45 Depart for Hatch, exit I-25 to NM 26, then North on NM 25 to Hillsboro Meet at Rest Area in center of town on NM 152
From Hillsboro follow 152 through Kingston, San Lorenzo to Hwy 180 into Silver City.
Rally point at Public Park on Pope Street (Hwy 180) just past Sonic. Lunch and Refuel as necessary. Departure time will be announced depending on arrival time.
Depart on NM 15 going North, around Lake Roberts clockwise to NM 35 rally point, public restrooms in campground area below (South of) the lake.
Continue South on 35 to Mimbres Go Southwest on NM 61 to City of Rocks State Park, continue 1 mile to
FAYWOOD HOT SPRINGS. http://faywood.com/index.php/bathing-camping-and-lodging
Usual day use rate is 12.00 per person. Gila Rally special discount rate 8.00. Showers and dressing room facilities available. Large community pool and others available. Bring towels and swimsuits, if desired. Clothing optional sections also available.
It is appox 25 miles on US Hwy 180 to Deming from Faywood Hot Springs.
This is a slightly shorter route than we have followed in the past two years since we will not return to Silver City after circling the lake. This should leave time for some soaking and relaxing before heading back to EP.
We also expect some other British/European car rally participants this year. There will be walkie talkie monitors to co ordinate the larger number of cars expected.

Awesome! I am definitely trying to spread the word. I know a lot of the car guys down in EP are at Bliss and have weird schedules. We shall see. We usually get about 20 MINIs to go on the run, and I definitely believe in the more the merrier mantra.
We are also organizing a track day at Arroyo Seco Raceway in Deming for the Fall most likely. I will also keep you guys in the loop on that one, as well.

Would love to do this but need to put some wrench time on my car. Hopefully I can get it all done this weekend.

It looks like I'm a go for this! Wife's friend flys in Saturday so she'll be entertained Sunday. Just have to bleed the breaks on Saturday. Looks like it's going to be a great drive!
