Tuning Library (a collection of resources in one thread)

Post by cr4ckfi3nd on Thu Jul 11, 2013 1:04 am

Alright guys and gals, so i really hate having to go to a thousand different websites and pages in order find all the different little spreadsheets and software and updates that i want and need to do my tuning. It really sucks. So in order to help prevent yall from feeling my pain, I'm gonna post the links, and attach all the files, to all the stuff that i use and any other recommended tools. This thread will be a living thread and I'll update it as much as possible when new tools and updates come up.

Now for the ground rules here:

The most important rule
1. I, nor the creators of these tools, are responsible for any damage that results to your property from the use of these resources. You assume all risk!

the rest:
2: I will not re-post tools that the creators have requested not to be re-posted, I will however post the links to them.
3: I will attach spreadsheets but I'm not responsible if they are out of date. I will update as I become aware of them.
4: Many of these items are universal but my tuning knowledge is specific to Subarus so that is what many of these tools are geared for. If you are unsure if the tools will help with your car then ask me and I'll answer as best i can.
5: I use opensource tuning so most of these tools are designed to work with opensource. That does not mean that you cant use them with Cobb or other EM. If you are unsure, ask and i will answer as best as i can
5: I will post my own material here including tuning advice and my personal maps. I will help you use these if you would like but I am not responsible for what happens to your property as a result.
6: I will add tools recommended by others including tools for Cobb and other EM however, if you recommend a tool that I am not personally familiar with please be able to explain how it works.

Basically, i will help as much possible but I am not responsible for your property because it is ultimately your decision to use my help and I do not claim or pretend to be a professional tuner. This does not change even if you decide to donate/pay for my help. I also do not actively tune other peoples cars. I will help you but not tune for you, that is for a professional to do.

Ok, now that we got that over with, the next post will contain the resources. Happy tuning!!!

Getting started and Guides

Post by cr4ckfi3nd on Thu Jul 11, 2013 1:04 am

A Subie Newbie Tuning Guide:
For all you would be subie tuners, this a great place to start. Keep in mind that if you don't know what some of these terms mean then you probably shouldn't be tuning yet. Do more research
https://sites.google.com/site/asubienewbietuningguide/ver-1-0

How-To Guides, Read them, ALL OF THEM!!!

Required hardware for opensource tuning:
This link leads to the newer Tactrix Openport 2.0 cable which has some advanced features
http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=17&category_id=6&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=53
The cable i am currently using is the Tactrix Openport 1.3 cable (no longer in production) which can be found used with some luck.

Romraider Download:
This is one if the 2 primary programs i use to tune. This program is primarily used for its data logging features and is fully capable of modifying just about every aspect you can think of in the ECU. There are several parts that need to be added for full function to follow...

Detailed install instructions for Windows Vista/7:
http://www.romraider.com/Documentation/RomRaiderFAQ#toc40
Main program:

ECU Definitions, follow instructions on page:

Logger Definitions, follow instructions on page, DO NOT INSTALL FROM 1ST POST, USE 2ND POST:
http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1642&start=1

ECUFlash Download:
The 2nd of the 2 tuning programs i use. This one can be used for adjusting tables as well but is the only program that can read/write to the ECU (for opensource tuning).

Program download:
http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=36&Itemid=58
ECU Definitions and corrected file, download from post 1 and 2. Follow the instuctions for post 1.Install the 2nd into C:\Program Files\OpenECU\EcuFlash\bases, replace the old file:

Tools and Spreadsheets

Post by cr4ckfi3nd on Thu Jul 11, 2013 1:05 am

Here I'll post the Tools and Spreadsheets i have found useful over the years. Feel free to suggest others that you have intimate knowledge of and I'll add to the list.

First, here is the RomRaider link to tools and spreadsheets. I have not tried all these but i feel that you should have access to the full listing. I will individually list the ones i do use.
http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=32

Learning View:
Reads ECU diagnostic codes, AFR Learning, and FLKC is a snapshot view. Great for a quick check to make sure everything is still running right or if you suspect a problem. Can also be used to reset the ecu.
http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=7397

Airboy's Spreadsheet:
The single greatest opensource tuning tool known to man!!!!!!! I can not even begin to describe all the features this thing has and how much it can and will help you tune. It is the only tool that the romraider program recognizes, it that good. be sure to thoroughly read the instructions. Play with it first so that you see what it can do before fully utilizing it. It takes some time to learn to use right.
http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=957

NSFW's Timing editor:
Easy to use utility to modify timing tables
http://www.romraider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=4439

NSFW's LogViewer.exe:
Opens the .csv files that RomRaider logger puts out 8 bazillion times faster than Microsoft Excel. Easy to use for quick log viewing and copying. No other real use besides that....

I have many other spreadsheets that i have used with success but with the updates to the tools posted here most of them have become obsolete. If you would like to use a spreadsheet for a particular problem just ask and i can recommend and send one straight to you (use at your own risk).

to be continued.....
