Bloody knuckles install meet
So I'm replacing the motor in my RS with a lower mileage EJ205. Still don't have an ETA on when the engine should show but would anybody be interested in giving me a hand if needed? Feel free to bring any items you may want to get installed as well. I don't have anything special as far as tools go (just the usual to get any bolt on stuff done) but i do have an engine hoist, ramps, 2 floor jacks and 4 jack stands, dremel, drill, etc...
On that note, anyone interested in a complete EJ205 longblock? Worst case scenario you'll want to replace the driverside head and possibly the piston rings since you'll have the heads removed. Car ran perfectly fine until the noise started out of the blue

Cool man. I'll post up here once the engine arrives with a time and location. I already have the original engine pulled so it'll be a simple drop in and bolt everything back up.

CJ how much would you want for that longblock? I would love to have one to take my time on and learn to assemble the motor w/ forged internals over time in my garage.

Re: Bloody knuckles install meet
I was actually considering doing the same thing with it. LOL! I put it up on NASIOC for $500 which includes the 6 puck clutch and light weight flywheel. The clutch looks quite used but it still held fine and didn't slip. May even throw the intake manifold and TGV's in for an additional $75 if someone wanted one. Or, if someone has some RS 6 spokes with good matching tires on them i would do a straight trade for the longblock.

Hell, if the replacement is 100% complete like the dude said, I'll sell everything (minus turbo, headers, and uppipe) for $500

Re: Bloody knuckles install meet
So the polar vortex had caused a delay in the shipping of my motor. It was suppose to arrive yesterday but now it's not due in until Friday. Hopefully they get it to my house Friday afternoon.

Re: Bloody knuckles install meet
That motor get shipped from Japan? I saw a space image of the white out over the great lakes on yahoo this morning, insane looking picture. Crazy how winter doesn't take full effect here until beginning of February. I thought I would be smart and wait for the end of the holidays last year to swap a motor in my legacy..my fingers nearly from off.
If you need/want help slapping that sucker in I'm down. I got the normal tools and equipment to assist.

Re: Bloody knuckles install meet
If you get delayed on your install I am down for turning some wrenches. I have a portable air compressor and a breaker bar that was strengthened by GOD himself. I am still looking at arriving early March.

Re: Bloody knuckles install meet
Wow! So check this. Engine arrived today and has a lot of rust (typical for New England car though) However, I was told it was a 2005 WRX engine with 60K miles, 145 psi on compression with less than 5% leakdown. Low and F*** behold, it's tagged as a 2002 WRX. So now, I have no clue as to what exactly the health of the engine is as compression and leakdown. Not to mention, the area around the oil cooler is F*** covered in residue so I'm thinking there is a leak in the oil cooler o ring. Needless to say I am pretty pissed at the moment. Waiting for the call tomorrow morning from PMPAutogroup to figure out what the F*** engine I have.

Re: Bloody knuckles install meet
Didn't the 05 wrx come with the ej255? The code is cast into the block, under the I/m. I'm sure you already know this having worked and swapped that motor already. That was a big year for the wrx maybe they had a midyear change and those boneheads tagged the wrong motor code?

Re: Bloody knuckles install meet
It's an EJ205 still. All 02-05 WRX came with the 2.0L. They made the change to 2.5L in 06. I'm still waiting for the call. Just irritated I was expecting a relatively low mileage 05 WRX engine to seeing a 02 WRX engine that I have no clue about.

Re: Bloody knuckles install meet
Yeah, so this obviously didn't happen. Once the issues were cleared up it was late Saturday afternoon I figured everyone was on the cruise so went ahead with the install. I appreciate everyone who offered their time to help. Had the issues not come about Friday when it was delivered I could have started early Saturday and got everyone over.
