Resurrection!
So anyone that knows me knows me knows that my car bit the dust in October after it sucked a bolt through the oil pump ( yep its a long story). So now I'm coming home early from deployment and the wife has given the green light to fix it.
And so begins round 2 of my engine build. Gonna start off by putting in a stock short block and getting all the tuning bugs worked out with my fuel system and such. The block in the car now will be pulled and rebuilt (if salvageable) to the tune of 600 blueprinted horsepower, the way it should have been the first time.
EDIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plans have changed and better opportunities have shown up. Ordered a Darton Sleeved and O-Ringed Block from Ron Subaru. Holy crap is this thing gonna be sick!!! Details Below!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Resurrection!
I'm dying to hear how you pulled off getting a bolt sucked in the oil pump. An oil pump failure can cause significant damage on a EJ, let alone most any car. I'd go into this expecting significant work needing to be done and be happily surprised if you need less than anticipated. Looking forward to the build thread.

Re: Resurrection!
I was shocked too when I figured out what had happened, but when I thought about it all the weird sounds and indications made since. I just would have never looked in my oil pan for the problem. I'll post a pic of my pick-up tube later ( i originally thought i cracked it, boy was i wrong). Don has seen it and you would be like "WTF? ROTFLMAO! how did you do that?"
Once I hash out the details I'll post up the date and time for the engine pull and bbq.

The Motor
This thing is a beauty. First of all i need to Thank Ron Subaru. This guy brought everything and the kitchen sink, giving me options to change out parts on the spot and showing me what other upgrades he has. If i had the extra cash to spend, i might have pissed off my wife thoroughly. But.....
The Parts:
EJ257 703 block
Darton 300-031 sleeves
100MM bored and o-ringed
OEM Nitrated Crank
Outfront Rods
King Race Journal and Thrust bearings
ACL rod bearings
CP 100MM 9.0:1 pistons
Cometic .060" HG
ARP Head Studs
The heads are still OEM but cleaned and freshened up thanks to Ron.

Putting on the accessories... and then some.
mini update 18 June:
Couple of side projects for aesthetics. Going with the overall theme of black and blue
Wrapped my SS Braided Fuel lines. Hopefully will help keep them from rubbing on stuff and add a lil pop to the engine bay
With me going black and blue, the stock red manifold just wont do....
After 2 coats of Military Flat Black Enamel. It took much longer to tape off all the bolt holes than to paint it.
Most of my parts will be here on the 19th and the 20th. More pics and initial thoughts to come...

Re: Resurrection!
Got a lot done last night. Got the oil pump, pickup, baffle, and, pan on. Put flywheel and clutch assembly on. Dead lifted the engine 4 times by hand (that wasn't fun at all) Got some pics I'll post later.
Gates timing belt kit and my custom SS lines should be in today. Gonna need help doing the timing and doing the final drop in...
By the way I need to shout out to Rockauto.com and anplumping.com. If yall don't know about them then you need to get to know. Stupid cheap prices like getting the failsafe thermostat, that everyone like to charge atleast $20 for, for less than $10. The timing belt kit I got for $230, cheapest I found it anywhere else was $280 for the exact same thing.
My plug for the day....

It's all coming together now...
Alright, sorry for the wait but here's the update.
Got parts in on Wed and Thurs. I took alot of great pics of the parts when they got here but....... that camera crapped itself when i tried to get the pics off so no comparison or individual component pics.
So here is the Gates Racing belt kit w/ water pump installed. All the bearing looked great and it even came with a spacer for the belt guides. There's only 2 things i didnt like about it, both easily fixed. One, the bolt hole just above and right of the pulley on the water pump was not flat all the way around for where the bolt tightens down' easy fix with a dremel and a sanding drum. Two, the WP gasket that came with it was paper and just seemed flimsy so i just cooper coated and reused my metal one. Other than that im totally happy with the kit
Next up, I ordered all the parts i needed to make my own AVCS/Turbo SS braided lines. Came out perfect and cost half the price. Still gonna wrap it in my orange wire wrap for that lil pop of color plus heat and rubbing protection.
Also ordered parts i needed for a custom oil pressure sensor feed line and the total cost was still less than 1 avcs kit from the speed shops...
The reason for this pic:
I had more detailed pics but this is all thats left. In order to install the clutch/flywheel I needed to take the engine off the stand, but I dont have a hoist and since it was at like 1AM i dead lifted the long block from the stand to the table. I then needed to lift and flip the block a couple times to install various other parts. After all than was done I needed to put it back in the stand with it now weighting about 40 lbs more than before....... that sucked big hairy gorilla nuts. I now have bruises on my arms where the engine dug in while i lifted it into place on an oil slicked floor, not fun at all....f#ck you clutch.
This is the spacer that came with the gates kit. made life easy when gaping all the belt guides.
Installed pic of my newly painted intake manifold along with my WRX TGV deletes (by grimmspeed), 8MM Phenolic spacers, TXS topfeed rails (also wrapped with the orange wire cover so it wont eat into my other parts again), and newly tested and cleaned Deatschwerks dark blue injectors
back shot of the same....
Not pictured is the Killer B Oil pickup tube. I really wish i had these pics cuz that thing was pure sex!!!!! Made the stock one look like a wet noodle. Definitely highly recommend this part, I'll never worry about that thing failing EVER!!!!

Oh yeah, that pickup is definitely far more stout than stock. I had done one myself. I considered getting the pan as well at one point.

Re: Resurrection!
Mad money= no. Large tax return= yes
Over the years I've probably put over $14k worth or parts on it (I didn't pay full price for most of it though with sponsors and hook ups). Now on the 3rd engine, 3rd suspension (sadly stock again but plans are in the works), 5th exhaust setup, and 3rd turbo setup. I learned the hard way on most of this stuff but this time around will be my final setup and build. The finished product will be the result of previous trial and error and tons (and I mean metric S*** tons) of research to make this car into exactly what my goal is: A DD road course monster that can hold its own in car shows with parts that fit form and function. That last statement is something I highly recommend that everyone gets, a specific goal that everything you do works towards...
