Ignorance. [SupaDoopa's 2008 STi]

Post by SupaDoopa on Sun Mar 03, 2013 11:58 pm

Well, I recently made a purchase on the flip side of what I expected. When looking to buy another EVO X GSR, I stumbled upon this STI. I drove it and it seemed pretty legit. No issues, lights, noises, etc. and it had a lot of big name brand stuff including Volk, Perrin, Grimmspeed, DEFI, etc. so I pulled the trigger. I'm not a massive Subaru enthusiast as I normally only bought Nissans [RWD] and Mitsubishi's [AWD]. I've owned 4 EVO's and currently on my 5th, had a few 1G's and 2G's, some VR4's both Galant and 3000GT, 240SX's, 350Z's, G35's... you get the hint - I'm a F*** car whore. I don't plan on getting rid of the EVO or STI so this means time to start a build thread. With EVO's, I go straight to power but this will be a hair different. I will be focusing on the visual appeal first minus some things I want to replace like shifter bushings, some control arm bushings, and S*** like that. This car is a daily so I'm not going to start ripping apart the motor right off the bat but most likely will buy a spare motor and start a build on the side and when done, swap it in for limited down time. I work smarter, not harder even when it may cost a few extra bucks.

The current plans are to get some BC coils to get it on the low [did some research and I don't plan on tracking the S*** out of the car and when I do, I will replace these with something better quality] and have a shopping list of wheels I want to do. Right now I'm sincerely considering NT03's, XD9's, VS-XX's, FN01R-C's, TM-02's, and a few others but thinking I'm going to pull the trigger on some 18x9.5 or 10 AME TM-02's in black chrome or flat black.

Anyways, I'm still unsure of every aftermarket piece it has on it as the dealer wasn't too sure but with obvious visual inspection, I could see some of it.

Blue DEFI racer boost gauge
Perrin intake
Full TBE [forgot the brand and it's dark as F*** out]
Short throw [again, not sure on brand. Will update when I replace the bushings]
VOLK TE37's 18x8.5 +40 5x114.3 all the way around [and currently for sale]
Nitto NT555's [can update on sizing later]
HKS SSQV [this is getting replaced IMMEDIATELY]
Blue LED swap on the full interior including gauge cluster, etc.
I am sure there are more that weren't immediately visible, too.

As you can see, I didn't really expect to be typing this at 11:00PM but I got bored and invited to these forums so F*** it.

Future plans:
GTX35R
FMIC with sprayer
Invidia TBE
SMY cluster pod
Full motor build
18x9.5 or 10 +20ish AME TM-02's
BC coilovers
BlueBatmobile tail light/third brake light overlays
Front lip, side skirt extensions, and rear diffuser
A new headunit because the OEM one absolute sucks
Start building and get ready for the track

Well, hopefully you guys have some input. I'm super indecisive. I could use some direction, some peoples trial and error, suggestions, and any local shops that specialize in Subaru's. I'd like to get a leak down and compression test on this bitch. Anyways. My name is Jay. People call me SupaDoopa because of my Boston accent. Beast coast reppin'. Below is a S*** picture of the car in 4x4 mode. Hurts me to see it like that.

When you say track car, what kind a racing are we talkin? I ask this because you may find it a bit overkill to go 35r on these for road course cars. The exhaust routing on these was not designed for spool compared to your past cars.
Another big issue with them is they tend to get temperamental when you go big. Big on a Subaru is not big on an Evo or DSM. 400-450 whp is considered big for these engines (dyno's vary).

But that being said, they are fun cars and can be made to be pretty quick and solid vs being absolute powerhouses.

Haha. Yeah. It did. I am STILL trying to sell the damn wheels. I want to get a more aggressive wheel and I may have landed on a set: Work Emotion CR Kiwami's. 18x9.5 +23 or whatever they are. Mmm.

Not that it is a huge update, but I did order a few things so I don't feel so lazy. Tomorrow I have a dude coming to most likely take away the TE37's so I will be getting temporary XXR 527's most likely [a buddy has a set laying around] until I decide which set of wheels I want to go with. I saw a vendor selling these new Cosmis wheels even though originally it was a toss up between Work EMOTION CR Kiwami's, AME TM02's, or Enkei NT03-M's Still a toss up but the Cosmis MRII's are intriguing.

Anyways, I bought a few things off a buddy back at home that I got for a steal. I got a Innovate LC-1 setup with a XD gauge [I'm pretty sure that's what face he said it had], a pair of Hella Supertones, and will be ordering BC Exterme Low's this week while I decide for sure on wheels.

Also, I'm going to be picking up a SMY clustermaker to neaten things up and Blue Batmobile tail light overlays. I'll shoot some pictures when I'm done but there won't be a huge update until the coils come in and the wheels most likely.
