450+ Whp on Stock block
So this has been interesting on random forums ive read. Just curious on what the El Paso people think about this? Personally Ive seen 450-550 Drive for years on a stock block. But everyone has had different experiences and such onb the subject. *No flame war*

Re: 450+ Whp on Stock block
450 is very capable on a stock block. 550 on a stock block is near what jon was running and I told him something would happen eventually and the rings are done. It's pointless to make that much power on a stock block unless you have money saved to actually build it or rebuild it.
Re: 450+ Whp on Stock block
Yeah Ima aiming for range 450-500ish, I feel like i should be safe there. My actual goal is 507 on E85. Only because the 2 STi before me made 489 or something and 506. I wanna out do the both in a wrx ): They ran that with race gas though with a gt35r. Im attempting to one up them with the rotated gtx35r, the 489 sti didnt do headers and went stock location. So I wanna beat him He comes back from germany a couple months after I get back from korea. So we'll have another subie in the mix as well.

That much power on a stock WRX block is going to lead to a catastrophe. E85 will make you more capable of reaching that goal but I dont think it will run long. I would be surprised if those two STi are still alive in the next few months either.

I'm with Don on this one. If you're shooting for that high of HP and expect it to last then I would consider an engine overhaul prior to the power mod install.

Both those STi are still around though..Years later lol. My guy in germany only had to replace his clutch so far. Whats the difference between the WRX 2.5 and STi 2.5 though? Thought engines were the same in that aspect. :O STi turbo is the main edge i thought it had to give it the 305hp off the lot. Referring to 09+ WRX only though.

It can def handle it for a while although i dont see that happening with the stock studs at min for a bit of reliability would recommend studs and pistons since everything else is forged in sti's

Still thinking about doing that ^ but the issue i got is my friends been going at it long enough to save up for a Cosworth (if he was smart) and still says he can prob go another 1 1/2 years or 2 when i talked to him yesterday. Ill be driving way way less than him lol. I dunno if the cost for parts and labor are worth it when that could have been saved up for a trans or Clutch. Only on a 5k budget and pistons would take a fairly big chunk out of it >_< Decisions decisions lol

Re: 450+ Whp on Stock block
Pistons arent that expensive. The Sti has AVCS where I believe the wrx do not and there are tons of little features that sti have that makes them superior and able to withstand much more power
Re: 450+ Whp on Stock block
All WRX 06+ have it I looked up a little on it, nothing too different, if anything i could find once the wrx switched to 2.5
Pistons would be nice and can go for like 400-800 depending on brands and stuff. but labor is always a decent amount, sometimes more than the pistons themselves. So then you get into that "Well, while its already open" and I dunno D: I more than trust my guys lol. I dont drive like a bat outta hell anymore, Ill race once or twice to have a timeslip and video to go with the dyno sheet for anyone that hates And start saving for a cosworth block or something

Pistons can range over $1000. Cosworth pistons for example. (I know, I have had a set shatter). When its open you might as well do everything to get it over with. There are few people I would ever trust working on the internals of my car and there's only one here in El Paso thats for sure.

This hurt my brain But I dont think thats a big issue.
Im on the same page as you lol Only 2 shops/people id trust, one in EP area. Other one is too far away ):
I dunno I might do Internals, Injectors, rails and Just wait off on the turbo. Im making decent power on the stock turbo to be happy for a bit. But ya know, and most people on here know. you get that Itch and wanna jsut go as fast as possible lol

Re: 450+ Whp on Stock block
I think that would be smart, it really sucks to destroy an engine it is never fun. Like you said there are several people that make X power on stock internals and thats great.
But eventually people do bend rods, crack pistons etc.. and some people enjoy that. It gives them a reason to overhaul the engine and take pictures of the aftermath.
But I would think it would be more enjoyable to produce a product from the the ground up that is designed to perform how you intend it.
