Re: The completely random off topic thread
Wait, were you serious about wanting a 2.5 block? If so, I know a couple of shops that could make that happen as well from Colorado.

Awesome! Yeah, eventually. More than likely will end up keeping the car as all potential replacements are too far away.

Oh, and 22B widebody is on the list as well. Whether all this comes together is still a mystery

SO in a non-ambiguous answer, how soon were you wanting a 2.5 block? You want a built one or one to build?

So instead of having three colors of lights on the benz, I now have all of them in 5000k white.
Also got a chance to start scrutinizing what I want to do to the car. I can seriously work on this car all day long.

Re: The completely random off topic thread
You know, I really don't know the answer to that. I would say at a minimum a year at least. I'd be looking for a complete, assembled shortblock ready to drop in. Like mentioned, I'm not looking for huge power. The Stage 1 engine from AWDtuning is basically what I would be looking at....
Stage One – 400whp/400wtq
-New OEM Subaru case halves
-New Nitride coated crankshaft
-Fresh hone
-ACL Race bearings
-JE FSR/JE Hybrid or Arias custom pistons
-STi rods
or the Stage 2 which replaces the STi rods with Manley H-beams.
I'm going to stick with my guns keep it the power goals to around the 350whp mark (yes, I know). So ideally, I'd be looking at something along those lines.

Re: The completely random off topic thread
I may even opt for just a basic EJ257 stock block.

Re: The completely random off topic thread
A suggestion. If you're going to opt for rods, you might as well go I-beam instead. Better to have it and not need it vs. your typical manner and decide to go bigger and create more downtime than necessary.

What's a couple of hundred more in the greater scheme of the build?

Flappy sacks? Does that have something to do with old age?

Re: The completely random off topic thread
Oh, and talked to a buddy back home that has a 257 shortblock he just rebuilt with stock STi rods and pistons and nitride coated crank. If I can get my car up to him he'd sell it to me and help install it for $800. Yes, not the built motor for big HP but it's really all I'm looking for.

Re: The completely random off topic thread
So, I think the logical thing to do is return the car back to a completely stock (WRX setup) and start over. I feel fulfilled with what I have accomplished at this point with the car. Time to wipe the canvas clean and start fresh. The fact I have everything still asides from the downpipe makes it easier.

Re: The completely random off topic thread
LOL! So very true. But I figure since nothing on the car will be included with the new anticipated setup then might as well take it off and sell. Figure I have approx $2500-$2800 worth of parts at the moment. Nice little chunk to start putting towards the new parts. Save for the $100-$125 I'll need for a used stock downpipe

So I'm contemplating pulling a CJ maneuver in contemplating selling the Evo. If I decide to do it for real, it will be to step up to a twin turbo v12 SL65.

Re: The completely random off topic thread
LMAO!!! Love it!
So the plot thickens. I have a potential trade lined up for a clean title, 54k mile on motor, 200k on chassis, 2001 2.5RS sedan. My car in stock condition for his + $1500. I keep the STi go fast bits, along with the V7 wheels/tires. We'll see what happens though as the other car is in Oregon. This way, I can locate an Impreza L coupe and use that as my swap candidate since all I really would be using is the body anyways. A true garage build!

I say keep the RS and make it a 20g setup with forged internals =)
Re: The completely random off topic thread
I say sell a car and quit collecting them. A few more and you'll need a dealers license.

What I meant was there's a good possibility you could wind up with a pile of crap from those dirty hippies. THere are masters at making a turd look shiny when it comes to cars.Chaz2.5 wrote:Oh yes.
